Feeling French today...

Jason scored some free Double Cream Brie cheese last week (it was marked wrong). I have been opening the refrigerator every day to stare at it.

I love Brie cheese. I really love Brie cheese.

When I was growing up in Southern California I would go to the specialty bread store and buy a fresh baguette and then I would head down to Gelson's and buy the nicest looking grapes and the best Brie in town. I would head back to my apartment and indulge in the best sandwich I could think of (that didn't require meat).

So, I set out today to recreate my favorite non-meat sandwich. I was not disappointed. Oh, and I decided to do a shop while I was buying my bread and grapes.

Oh no! I didn't realize the $3/1 charcoal Q expired yesterday!!! I had it all ready for my shop tomorrow. :( Do you get prior approval for expired Q's from customer service before you shop? Or just chance it at checkout?

Now I am really feeling bummed that my husband's company didn't transfer him to Nashville. ;) I wish that Nashville was a bit closer because I would totally send my husband to your Publix boot camp (and me too!!). Great job!!!

Mandi, I do both. Yesterday I just got in line and the checker didn't want to take the coupon so I asked to speak to a manager to see if they would take them because they were only 1 day out of date. They sent me over to customer service to finish checking out (they just moved me over mid-transaction). I thought it was pretty cool that they could just stop in the middle of the transaction and move you (everything was still on the trasaction including the coupons that they had already scanned). Anyway, they called the current manager and she said that it was ok.

So, you can just get into line and use them (Jason and I routinely use coupons out of date within a 1-2 week period without incident). We try to use reasonable judgement. We might use one or two types of coupons just a little out of date. We have never had a problem yet. Our cashiers know us pretty well. The store will get reimbursed for them up to 90 days out of date, however, Publix guideline indicates that they do not take expired coupons (so just be aware of that).

You can also just wait until Sunday and I will share some of the $4/1 Kingsford coupons that I just ordered which don't expire until 8/31/09. I bought 120 of them and I'm happy to give you some of them. Just let me know. They will give you even more overage for an already awesome deal!

Bethany, don't be bummed. I'm sure you're getting great deals where you live. Just remember that I work these deals to provide "inspriation" for the folks that are coming to the blog. Most folks won't save this much and that's ok. It's not how much you save; it's remembering that a gracious God is supplying all of our needs according to His riches and glory.

Bethany, (secretly) I would love it if you lived closer though. :)

Mandi, if the coupons come today do you want me to call you? You are welcome to come by and get some for your shop. They might get here by today. I'll even throw in some of the Food Lion sugar Q's to sweeten the deal. :)

Actually, you should just come by anyway. I can set you up with some great coupons for your shop.

Sometimes I feel like a drug dealer...

LOL! You're a pusher. A COUPON pusher!!

CS has always told me they will only let you stack a mq with a store q, not two store q's together (like a Publix q and a flip, or a Publix q and a Target q). What is your experience with this?

I've been reading your blog for a few weeks and the savings is just incredible! Great job! I'm going to have to start stopping by Food Lion for some of those great coupons. Any place in particular I should look?

Duh! It never dawned on me to use overage with the pork coupon. I do it all the time with other items. That's why I love to see other people's shop. Nice job.

Brandy, It's true that you can't stack two store Q's (meaning two Publix store Q's). But I don't see why you couldn't stack a competitor Q with a store Q. I haven't had a problem stacking these in the past (not even once). I guess I never thought about it before because it has never come up. I read the following on Southernsavers.com when I started shopping at Publix:

"3. Publix accepts competitors coupons (you can stack with a manufacturers coupon and a Publix coupon too)"

I just always thought that was the rule. I probably won't change the way that I use my coupons unless the managers tell me I have to stop (no one has ever said that before). Of course, I've never asked! LOL.

Cheapster - Most of the great Food Lion Q's that I found were from the stores close to Chattanooga on my way home from Atlanta. I would imagine the local stores get pretty cleaned out. Maybe Brandy can give you her experience though (she lives in Clarksville).

BTW, welcome to the blog. Nice to have you hangin' around.

Becky, you're not the first person to make that statement. The first time that I thought about getting overage on the pork I was so excited. Now I look for items that will give me overage and the combinations are endless.

Brandy, I just read through the Publix guidelines that the TN District Manager sent out to the stores a few months ago and it doesn't mention anything about not being able to stack a competitor Q, with a store Q, with a manufacturer Q. It only says that you can't use more than 2 manufacturer Q's on one item and that you can combine a Publix Q with a manufacturer Q. It actually doesn't even mention competitor Q's.

starbucksgirl said...

In fact, I think it is highly likely that the customer service folks that you talked to don't understand their own guideline. They were probably told that you can't take two store coupons for an item and they interpreted that to mean only a Publix store Q or a competitor Q.

Hi! You do an awesome job! Just wondering do you know when the publix coupon expires for the apple and eve juice. Thanks.

starbucksgirl said...

Anon, the manufacturer coupon for the Apple & Eve expires on 9/30/09 and the Publix coupon expires on 7/31/09.

Thanks...sorry dont have a blog acct. Just ordered some apple & eve on ebay.

Kel- that's interesting about the stacking. I was originally told that by people at the Goodlettsville store, so it is VERY possible they don't know their own policy. . . but I was also reading some info on HCW and they also say from what they've researched that you can use two q's per item, one mq and one "store" q, be it Publix store, or some other store.
But, if you've never had a problem with it... I may give it a try ;)
Next time I see Eric, I'll ask him and see what he says as well.

Nashville Cheapster- I have a Food Lion about a mile from my house and I cruise it for q's all the time- at least once a week (I rarely actually SHOP there! lol). I don't think a lot of people coupon in my area b/c i get some great q's at my store. There is another store about 5 miles from me but I've not been in there- I think they may carry some of the good ones too.
As far as where to find them, I just walk up and down the aisles looking for any tearpads or blinkies. I will often find random tearpads hanging off of endcaps and in the meat area.

Kelly, where do you buy your coupons from? I bought some from ebay almost a week ago and they haven't arrived yet. Is it usual to take so long for coupons to arrive? I never bought any before.

starbucksgirl said...

Melissa, I buy them on EBAY. I look for sellers who will mail them out the next day. I have generally had good sellers. Every now and then a seller will not mail out as they have advertised in their listings. When this happens I leave them appropriate feedback letting them know that I am not satisfied with the transaction because coupons are so time sensitive.

I would contact the seller and ask them when they mailed them out and then when you receive them check the date they mailed them on the envelope and communicate with your seller.

I just bought some coupons that should have been shipped out the same day and the seller shipped them two days later. I communicated with the seller that I needed them for a sale and she said that she would refund my money (which is appropriate).
