Another reason to live....

Dear Mandi,

Drop everything and get you some of this right now. Who knew that Kentucky Pie was masquerading all these years? It's been hiding behind that whole "pie facade."

Love, Kelly

Background story: Ah, the summer of 2005. I remember it well.....

My good friend Mandi and I had lived in TN for approximately 3 years. We both hailed from the great state of TX. The land of wide open skies, fiercely independent people and, of course, the birthplace of Blue Bell Ice Cream. Mandi and I have the same blood coursing through our veins and the same ice cream in our bowls. This is no small matter. We have the kind of friendship that most people dream about.

I'm not sure which one of us heard the news first. I only remember the general hysteria that ensued. Blue Bell was coming to TN.

We headed to the Piggly Wiggly in Nolensville the day that Blue Bell came to town. When we arrived, we were told that the ice cream had not been delivered yet and they weren't sure when it was going to get there. I'm pretty sure that you could hear the collective *sigh" coming from both of our hearts that day.

We were deflated.

We decided to drive home and try another day. As we drove away we spotted the Blue Bell truck heading down the road towards us. So, we did what any red-blooded Texan in their right mind would do......we made an immediate u-turn and followed the car all the way to the store and then practically attacked the delivery guy with our enthusiasm. He felt so sorry for us that he handed us the flavors that we were interested in right then and there in the parking lot.

.......not a day that I will soon forget.

NOTE: Blue Bell Ice cream is on sale this week until Tuesday. This flavor is well worth the trip to the store. If you are not a big fan of stuff in your ice cream then you could always buy one of the best vanilla ice creams in the country (which happens to be Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla). I don't even like vanilla ice cream but I dream of Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla.

LOL! I won't soon forget it either, friend. And it was back in the day that the Piggly Wiggly was the store of choice in Nolensville, right? (Makes the story sound even better. :) ) And definitely before extreme couponing. No telling what we paid for that ice cream! Well, I will have to check out this Kentucky Pie. My list of Blue Bell favorites has grown since we've had easy access to it in Tennessee. But I am limiting myself to 2 half gallons at my shop tomorrow...no more.

Mandi, not sure if my recollection is 100% correct but the elation is what I remember the most!

I'm certain we paid $6.00 at the Piggly (thanks for the reminder that we would NEVER shop at Food Lion; my brain is deteriorating with two children......in a good way) . :) $12.00 for two 1/2 gallons of ice cream. Insane right? But worth it.

I limited myself to two half gallons but may have to rethink that strategy after tasting this flavor. I fell in love all over again after one bite.

Yeah, the banana Puddin' rocks.

I was thinking the same thing...whatever we paid for that ice cream was worth it. I probably would have paid $10 per 1/2 gallon on the day Blue Bell made it's debut in Tennessee.

I DID get some Kentucky Pie, but we haven't opened it yet. Jeff is scared to leave me in the house alone with an OPEN 1/2 gallon of Blue Bell now that I'm 6 1/2 months pregnant...I have to be supervised so I don't eat it all! Okay, maybe that's an exaggeration, but Jeff has gotten some good laughs out of me and my eating habits these days (like chicken nuggets with mustard 2 days in a row for lunch). Enough said.

Mandi, I broke down and purchased two more today. Had to get another Kentucky Pie and a Banana Puddin' (because Brandy made me think about that awesome flavor).

I am going to have to try it now!

Trina, if you try it come back here and let us know how you liked it. :) I challenge you not to eat the whole 1/2 gallon in two sittings.

Man! I already got 4 with my coupons--none of which were KY pie.hmmmm. Maybe I shouldn't abbreviate that. Kentucky Pie. :) I want to try that now. But I have a hard time buying something without a coupon.....

Lisa, do not give in to the urge to buy something without a coupon. If you were to purchase an item without a coupon then I would have to seriously reconsider the friendship.......as bad company corrupts good morals.

Oh yeah. The state of Kentucky called me to complain about your abbreviation. They mostly wanted to correct your grammar since you forgot to put a period after the KY.

Lisa, PS - I did not know that you liked Norah Jones. I LOVE Norah Jones. You are so cool.

adam and lisa said...

I DO love Norah Jones--we'll listen to her sometime. And KY (w/o a period) is a correct postal abbrev. :) So I need to complain to the state of KY that they don't know their own postal abbrev.

I don't recall seeing an envelope in your sentence.

- da-dum-dum (cymbol sound)

I have no response.

LOL.

It's hard to type a drumline at the end of a joke.

I should just call you so that I can tease you over the phone; much more effective.
