Publix, Wednesday 6/3/09

There are some great deals this week at Publix. I was especially excited to stock up on light bulbs (I love having a supply of household items in my home)! I also decided to try a new paper towel called Sparkle.

I love couponing because you get to try items that you would have never bought in the past. My spending habits have changed considerably since I started using coupons. I have tried so many new products over the last year and it has been fun to move away from my old brands and fall in love with new brands. For example, I used to buy Costco's toilet paper and now I use Cottonelle (which I love)! I can't wait to get the chance to try every brand of paper towels and toilet paper available. I'm bound to pick a new favorite from each category.

Jason and I checked out in different transactions so that we could use two $5/50 competitor coupons.

Ok, here's the deal:
8 Sundown Vitamins $2.99-$3.29 ea ($6/2 Publix Q and $1/1 = FREE+)
2 Revlon $1.49 ea ($2/1 = FREE+)
6 Buddy Bars $1.09 ea ($3/2 = FREE+)
5 Grill Mates packets $1.00 ea ($.50/1 = FREE)
4 Dole Tropical Fruit $1.09 ea ($.50/1 = .09 ea)
2 Ziploc $1.99 (.40/1 and B1G1 Q and $1/1 Target Q = .10 ea)
10 Ronzoni Smart Taste $1.25 ea ($1/1 = .25 ea)
21 GE Reveal 4-pack Light Bulbs $1.25 ea ($1/1 = .25 ea)
6 Hunts Ketchup $.70 ea (.20/1 = .30 ea)
10 Nestle Ultimates $1.38 ea ($1/1 = .38 ea)
5 Guldens Mustard $1.29 ea (no coupons = $1.29 ea)
4 Sparkle 2-pack paper towels $2.50 ($.50/1 = $1.50 ea)
Two $5/50 competitor coupons

TOTAL: $172.01
TOTAL AFTER COUPONS AND REBATES: $4.88
SAVINGS: 97%

NOTE: There is a rebate at Publix for the Hunt's Ketchup and the Guldens Mustard. They are a part of the buy $50 in groceries and spend $10 on Con Agra products. We will get back a $10 gift card for these items.
NOTE2: Also, please note that the price of the GE light bulbs varies greatly from store to store in our area. Maryland Farms had the lightbulbs for $3.59 a pack B1G1 and Nipper's Corner had them for $2.59 a pack B1G1. Big difference in price. You can call ahead and ask your store how much they cost. I would have paid .75 a pack after coupon at Maryland Farms but I ended up paying .25 a pack at Nipper's Corner.
NOTE3: The pasta is only at this price until Saturday 6/5/09. It is on Advantage Buy this month.

Wow! Impressive! Where did you find the $1/1 Target Ziploc Q? Checked HCW and RP.

SCG - I think I found the ziploc target Q in my local recycle bin. It looked like a special mailer and it only had that coupon on it if I remember correctly. I would love to get more of them too!

You brave souls that get in those big recycling bins. ;) I thought about it the other day...but opted out! :) I am thinking that I need to put a small plastic bin beside the big metal bin that says Sunday papers only. :)

Awesome savings!! I was talking about you this morning to another coupon friend. I told her that I rediscovered your blog a few weeks ago and you "reenergized" (sp??) me to do a better job finding the best deals!! Thanks!!!

Are the manuf. coupons for the Sundown ($1/1) the ones that have just expired, or do you have new ones?

Kelly, Where did you find the $1.00 off of your light bulbs? I can only find the $1.50/2. Thanks! :)

SCG, I like the way you think? I may steal that idea!

Bethany, our region received a $1/1 coupon. Some regions received $1.50/1 and some regions received a $2/2.

Melea, I used the ones that just expired but I just purchased some new ones with an expiration date of 7/20/09 on ebay.

Where do you get the $5 off $50 comp. coupons and which comp. store is it. I live in the gallatin/hendersonville area and my publix won't except target coupons. Do the nashville store accept them?

Bec, I get the $5/50 competitor coupons from various sources (mailers, recycle bin, online). The one that I use the most is from the Franklin Review Appeal (the last page of the Wednesday paper is usually an HG Hill coupon). I also recently found 10 Entertainment books in the recycle bin and they had several $5/50 competitor coupons (Piggly Wiggly, GFS, and Bill Martn).

There are 3 stores that I know of that take Target coupons here (the Maryland Farms store in Brentwood, the Cool Springs store on Moore's Lane and the Franklin store on Royal Oaks). You should call before venturing out though to make sure that they haven't changed their policy. I've heard that the Franklin store may have changed their policy but it just depends on who you talk to. So long as you have manager approval before you head out to the store you should be fine. I think that the Hermitage store takes Target coupons too; my girlfriend just talked to the manager the other day and he said that they do take them.

So here is the deal on the Family Is It's Own Reward book...I emailed corporate and this is their response...Looks like my store will get it...Hopefully these great deals will come back around then! :)
Thank you for your email. We appreciate our customers taking the time to contact us. According to our business development directory, this promotion is not due to start in our stores until June 18th. At that time all stores will have the necessary forms and information so that you can register.

Thanks for the info. SCG. That's very helpful to know. BTW, which store do you shop and where are you located?

where are recycle bins usually located??? and when is the best time to hit them up..

thriftydivaclr - you need to find a source in your city for recycle bins. You can contact your local city and find out where they have them stationed. You will need to go to your local bin and see when it is full; this will vary depending on when people in your area drop off their newspapers.
